Few things take me by surprise here in the art portal, but this certainly did. Such a powerful and captivating piece, I'm seriously at a loss for words. Well done, and thank you for making this :)

robotjuice responds:

Thank you! I'm flattered!

You should definitely invest in a scanner if you plan on doing traditional art, photos wont pick up anywhere near as much detail. If you do more photographed uploads though try to find a surface that doesn't distract from the artwork, something like a countertop or cardboard sheet perhaps. The linework compliments the subject matter but it is slightly chaotic in places (struggling to grasp what is happening in the bottom left lol) that can be a good thing if you intended for it though, so not a big worry.

childoftheforgotten responds:

Thank you i had never really thought about a scanner before so i will diffidently look into that later on. as for the bottom left, well it's clearer on the colored version. But basically my idea was the undead legion invading Lothern.

I'm not sure if you were going for realism, but there are multiple parts to this that can be fine tuned. The blood isn't all that realistic, for starters, as it would have a blotchy texture if seeping into paper, kind of like watercolours would. And the font is rather digital, so it feels less human, handwriting it out then scanning onto your computer would do wonders (as would the watercolours I suggested too actually). Those details aside though, you got an essence to the piece, which is enough to make "it" art in my eyes; I'd just recommend experimenting with other mediums in the future thats all. Nicely done :)

thank you, im going to completely honest i didnt think anybody would even notice my art as it is i thought it was just going to sit there. I see what u mean and i did it all digitally. was bored one day and thought about dong something like this. Im not that good at my arts but i think i shall upload others see what u think of them lol. Thank you

Seriously though, great stuff. Love how the brush strokes aren't hidden, it adds so much texture and dynamics. Only suggestion would be to add some white highlights to really make it pop, but otherwise this is damn near immaculate.

themefinland responds:

Thanks a lot :) I'll keep your suggestion in mind on my future drawings!

This is incredible, damn. The sheer amount of creativity and unique ideas exceeds that of the usual batch of art you get here on NewGrounds, a much needed surprise to have found for me! There are a few small critiques I have for your technique though, mind you they don't distract from the artworks feel and intention so this is more a heads up for next time I guess. First, the back-left leg of the table doesn't align with the corner of the table, easy fix for next time is a quick perspective map of the piece in pencil just to make sure you dont have stuff like that appear in the finished ink. And second, the shading feels a bit off kilter in places, such as the edge of that rectangular base of the mechanics left without shading, and the bottom floor of the table being completely white too. This again is pretty simple, imagine where the light is coming from and find everything that would create a shadow from that source, then mark it as a reminder to shade later on.

Small details will really make your art come to life, so work on them in your off time on sketches and doodles to improve your skill in those areas. This is still something to be proud of, and a piece I really adore, keep up the good work!

TheusIxion responds:

Thank you.

If this were the cover for the album I'd definitely be intrigued to hear the music on it, it has the grab that all good covers need so you nailed that. Only critique I can come up with for this is the background feels a little intrusive, it takes away from the centre focus because the lighter shades are closer to the skull. Otherwise a really cool and unique style pulled off really well, keep it up!

Urichov responds:

The album cover thing was actually a joke, but thanks. On the subject of the background, I put the lighter shades closer to the skull because it makes it seem like the skull is the light source of the whole image.

The philosopher Theodor Adorno once said that "The task of art today is to bring chaos into order". This is the perfect example of that.

I have many things to praise about this. First of all, I love the way you broke apart everything like one of those diagrams in appliance service manuals, it's so unique and well fitting to your drawing style. The colours are insane too, adding a whole other level of chaos to the piece. And then once you get past the vibrant colours and broken imagery you start to notice all the great little details that just add character and charisma to this guy. I'm hardpressed to fault anything here, because all the points of criticism I'd come up with I can answer myself. "The vibrancy is a bit too much", but if it wasnt this extreme it wouldnt be as effective. "The linework is very rough and unrefined", but that imperfection adds to the feel of the piece. "Some colours aren't within the lines" dude wth you talking about you made an album cover with shit out of the lines.

5 stars, and very well deserving of it, added to faves and definitely following you for more, keep it up!

deathink responds:

thank you very much for your well thought out comment. It means a lot to me.

This is adorable! I love the relationship between the characters and how well you portrayed it, expressing that can be tough but you nailed it. The background is great too, having enough detail to stay interesting but not too much to be a distraction. If I had to pull some criticisms though, I'd say there are a few textures that aren't as good as others, notably the metal on these lil' cuties being less detailed than the metal framework in the background. I dont think that really impacts the art at all though haha, I'm really only looking for things to nitpick at this point, it's near perfect c:

Keep it up!

Sony-Shock responds:

Awwww, thank you!

And please, I love nitpicks in critiques! Or not so nitpicky, they are useful! I have a lot to learn, SPECIALLY small things like this.
It's actually interesting you mentioned the difference in details... I actually think I overworked the background a little, and I didn't want to make the characters look too realistic (in texture, at least), I always want them soft and cuddly...

It's going to take me a while to control the details since I'm starting to take backgrounds more seriously....

Thank you a lot!

I'm absolutely in love with your art style, it's so characterized and pungent, teeming with creativity. The vibe this gives off is fantastic too, the animals(?) have this naivety to them that fits in nicely with the dark halloween styled setting. I am curious as to why you left some background as parchment rather than filling it out entirely, it's just not something I'd think to do personally. That's really the only criticism I have for an otherwise 10/10 piece, keep it up!

Butzbo responds:

That's a good point about the framing, at first I went for it recalling the look of some storybooks, but it didn't end up as consistant since I still wanted to have some elements expanding beyond the frame, so I expanded the tracks and the 'smoke-being' to use the whole canvas; it may look better on print, but it is an odd experiment indeed, hehh.
Thanks GD! :)

This is really well made, I love how you made something as simple as a hook tell so much in this context. The hands are a little weird for me, but that's not to say it's bad, I appreciate the creativity and obscurity it's just not something I would do myself. All in all though a very thought envoking piece, keep it up!

polhudo responds:

Thanks a lot for your feedback and your comment GDTriAxis, always welcome!

i want people to understand me better than i understand myself
